The Seven Senses - No. 3. Touch

Sneaky_peekThis week the children are going to explore their sense of touch, one of the seven senses. Yes, another game requiring a blind fold! Select a number of safe objects from around the home. Choose items that differ in texture, material, size and shape. Sit the child/ren safely at a table and cover their eyes. One at a time put an object in their hands for them to explore through touch. If after touching they can’t guess what it is, allow them to smell it. If they still can’t guess give them verbal clues. Try to allow them to guess what it is without looking. I found the children in this house were much quicker at this game than the adults!

Here are some examples of safe things to try : hairbrush, brillo pad, cotton wool, bubble wrap, mushroom, teddy, piece of lego, book, play dough or plasticine, flower, peeled tangerine, wooden spoon, metal teaspoon, damp cloth.

Find some more ideas for exploring touch here. Or discover about how animals such as moles rely on the sense of touch.

And doing it all with the kids is really just an excuse for me to have fun doing it again too!

I love your series of the senses - it takes me back to games played as a child - the simple games are definitely the best.

Ijust found your blog via Kids Craft Weekly and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks!

Just reading your update today and spotted the game posted up! What a fantastic sequence of games. i remember playing similar ones when i was young with my mum but had completely forgotten them. So thanks for jogging my memory!
