Competition Felt Piece
Thismorning I started work on the piece of felt that is to be a gift for the person who wins the draw I offered a while back. I began by choosing my colours .. mainly blues as its going to be an ocean wave inspired work. This is how the raw fleece is provided, like long sausages of fibres which tease off easily for felting or spinning.
I laid out layers of colour and added various fancy yarns, metallic threads, throwsters silk (below), silk tops, and even some alpaca fleece given to me by a friend with her own herd of alpacas.
This is how it looked prefelted ...
... and then quite a considerable amount of elbow grease later it looked like this ...
I plan to try needle felting into it too, and perhaps doing some freehand and machine embroidery to enhance certain areas. I will draw a winner this Sunday, when the piece is completed and ready for posting.

An exquisite work of art. Such beauty...

I can't tell you how much I want to come and sit around your kitchen table with my sleeves rolled up, learning how to do this - perhaps to be combined with a parental visit, surely it's not that far to your place...
